Even non-football fans know what we mean when we say the Big Game. The Super Bowl is the national championship football game that occurs usually on the last Sunday in January or first Sunday in February. This means that the best football playing in the entire world happens in this game. The 2017 Super Bowl takes place in Houston where underdogs Atlanta Falcons play against the New England Patriots on February 5. Even if you’re not normally a football fan, you know you want to join the festivities, or host your own party. Buffalo wings, potato chips, pizza, and beer are probably on the menu if you’re eating what most Americans will be, but most of us would agree that guacamole is a key part of the game-day grub. So, here’s what you need for the best football game watching snack in the entire world, the ultimate guacamole recipe.

Most guacamole are green, and only green. But this guacamole has serious flavor, heat, and color. We mash one avocado and season it with lime juice, cumin, and coriander, and fold in the remaining diced avocado for texture, a tip we picked up from these pros. Then we add jalapeno, diced red, yellow peppers, and cherry tomatoes and red onions. Sprigs of cilantro add freshness and authenticity to this Mexican-inspired dipping delight.

Prep: Yield: 1 bowlTotal:

A well-seasoned guacamole with BIG additions: sweet and hot peppers, cherry tomatoes, and red or white onion add crunch and color to a creamy green bowl of mashed and diced avocados.

You'll Need...

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice, or 2 limes, freshly squeezed
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ jalapeno chile, stemmed and deseeded, finely diced
  • 1/3 cup cherry or grape tomatoes, halved (about 6 cherry tomatoes)
  • ½ cup red and yellow bell peppers, finely diced (1 red and 1 yellow, small; or ½ of each if large)
  • ¼ cup onion, finely chopped (1 small onion)

Directions

  1. Prepare avocados. Halve each avocado, remove pit, and scoop out of peel. Take one and place in a bowl. Add lime juice, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper, mixing until well incorporated.
  2. Prepare the Big additions. Take the other two avocados and cut into ¼ inch pieces. Halve cherry tomatoes. Destem and deseed jalapeno chile and bell peppers; finely chop. Finely chop the red onion about the same size as the jalapeno and peppers. Add all these colorful and flavorful crunchies into the seasoned avocado mixture. Lightly fold together.
  3. Serve with tortilla chips and a Mexican beer or a lime LaCroix.

Additional Notes

Can't decide between a creamy or chunky guacamole? This offers the best of both; one avocado is mashed with lime and spices and two are diced and folded in, a tip we picked up from America's Test Kitchen.
